Such a beautiful post... and amazing photos too. I have also been enjoying the companionship of small beings, most notably an orb weaver (maybe a barn spider?) that has been spinning and re-spinning her web near the back porch light just outside our bedroom. I could watch her for hours.
I can just picture this. I love this time of year for bringing us the orbweavers. I call them "Guardian of the Porch" (or wherever they are.) I loved your newest post highlighting them.
Also, this made me realize that the two footnotes I had (one with more thoughts about companionship with small wild things) mysteriously disappeared! It was connecting this feeling with the neurodivergent concept of parallel play/body doubling. I've been thinking about this as the theme of an essay for a year now — maybe the deleted footnote is a sign to just write the essay.
